Q:  How risky is paragliding?

A:  Insurers tend to put paragliding in the same risk category as off-piste skiing, white-water rafting, and pot-holing. If those kinds of activities sound far too extreme for you, then you should think twice about paragliding. You’ll be asked to sign this risk warning before you fly with us – please read it carefully – it’s not just there to cover our behinds. Paragliding brings much joy, but it also comes with the unavoidable risk of injury and death. We reduce this risk by training, equipment inspection, monitoring the weather etc. but accidents still happen, even to experienced pilots who follow all the safety procedures. You should only come flying if, for you, the joy is worth the risk.

Q:  How can the passenger minimise the risks?

A:  The passenger can do a lot to help have a safe flight: Listen carefully to instructions, and follow them. Ask if you don’t understand. Don’t feel pressured to fly if you have a bad feeling about it – we fly for fun, not to prove anything. Tell the pilot if you want to stop, whether before or during the flight. Relax and enjoy yourself!

Q:  Do I need to be fit?

A:  You don’t need to be an athlete, but a moderate level of fitness is helpful. You need to weigh between 42kg and 110kg (7 to 17 stone). You should be capable of running for 30 seconds, and be able to balance and jump.

Q:  When can I fly?

A:  It all depends on the weather: we need no rain, and light wind from the right direction. The forecast gives us a good idea a few days in advance, and the evening before we can be 90% sure. Once you've paid online, we ask you to contact us with three dates when you'd like to fly. We'll be in touch the night before each date to tell you if the weather is good. In addition, we may contact you if the weather forecast is good and we're looking for more passengers.

Q:  What should I wear?

A:  Grippy shoes, ideally with ankle support. A wind proof jacket and long trousers. The temperature at altitude is a bit cooler, so wear an extra layer. In winter you’ll need gloves and a scarf.
