Rotary International, founded in 1905, is one of the world’s largest and most successful global membership and humanitarian service organisations and operates in over 200 countries. It has the stated objective of advancing peace and goodwill around the world. It has its own charity, called Rotary Foundation, started over 100 years ago. which has distributed more than $4 billion worldwide in life-changing, sustainable projects. It is non-religious, non-political and people of any gender and ethnic group may apply to join. Members of Rotary, called Rotarians, belong to clubs. There are over 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide in over 35,000 clubs. In Romsey we have two Rotary Clubs – the oldest being the Rotary Club of Romsey and the newer Club named the Rotary Club of Romsey Test. Each Club is independent of the other, but we cooperate and help each other wherever we can, and appreciate the support of individual non-Rotarians and other valued organisations and businesses. Major fund raising and community-based events that we routinely organise include Romsey Relay Marathon, Walk the Test Way, the Mayor’s Picnic, Reminiscences of Romsey and Carols in the Market Square at Christmas. If you think you might like to become a member of Rotary and join one of our clubs, first check www.rotary.org and www.rotarygbi.org, and if you like what you see we would be delighted to hear from you.
