Your Hampshire - Samuel McGinley

We speak to Hampshire local Samuel McGinley to find out his favourite things to do in Hampshire.

Where in Hampshire do you live?

Cosham – right in the hub of access to Portsmouth and beyond!

Where do you like to go on a rainy day?

If I’m not giving a tour (which I have done in hail before!), then the theatre, or getting the family to wrap up warm and get out exploring…with the promise/bribe of eating out.

Where is the best place for a cuppa?

Thankfully independents are popping up all over; from Cosham high street; Albert Road; Marmion Road; and all along Southsea, but we love going to Casemates, hidden in Hilsea lines – such a great vibe and often live music.

What is your favourite walk?

If it’s quick then Hilsea lines – but around Portchester castle or the seafront. So many wonderful delights nearby.

What do you recommend people do when they visit for the first time?

Whenever my partner and I visit new towns or cities we look straight away to do a guided walk, and of course most new people I meet are doing my own walking tour - but I seriously suggest any new visitors to Portsmouth going atop Portsdown Hill just for the panoramic – there are not many places anywhere you get such a breathtaking view!

Where is your favourite spot in Hampshire?

Practice what you preach – atop Portsdown Hill, maybe a cheeky burger and cheesy chips too. A simple southern soul!
