We speak to Hampshire local Nicky Watts to find out her favourite things to do in Hampshire.
I live in the beautiful city of Winchester. Tucked behind the University in a leafy part of the city.
As an active person, what better place than the new Leisure Centre in Bar End. From courts and pitches to pools and climbing - something for everyone on a rainy day.
There is a plethora of coffee shops around Winchester - lots of high street brands but head out towards the station and you will find gems like - The General Store on Stockbridge Road. The perfect place for a morning coffee before a commute to an afternoon catch with friends and even a chilled glass after work as it is open early until late.
We are incredibly lucky to have a lovely walks within minutes of the city centre. The water meadows and St Catherine’s Hill are my daily go to with Willow (Cockerpoo) and can be pushed further in a few directions - up over the hill to head out towards Hockey Golf Course or along the river to Twyford. If I was heading further out of town, I would head to Stockbridge along the old railway track and across the meadows there to end in Thyme and Tides Deli. All walks end with a pub or cafe don’t they?
Make the most of the guided walks around Winchester and visit Winchester College or hire a bike from Bespoke Biking and take a ride along the cycle paths out towards my favourite spot in Hampshire.
Of all the glorious places - the top of St Catherine’s Hill is hard to beat in terms of views over the city. Park at the bottom on Garnier Road, grab a coffee from the Handlebar Cafe (parking your bike safely here) and head up the valley before circling back around to pick up your bike.
