We speak to south coast businessman, Dan Montgomery to find out his favourite things to do in Hampshire. Dan runs the Southampton / Hampshire- based luxury airport and cruise transfers and executive chauffeur company, Plus Chauffeurs
I live in Emsworth now, which I really enjoy, but I still feel very connected to Eastleigh and Southampton because that’s where so much of the business has grown from. Hampshire is a county I know extremely well through work and day-to-day life, and I think that gives you a real appreciation for how much it has to offer.
If the weather’s not great, I quite like heading somewhere like Winchester. It’s one of those places that still feels worth visiting even when it’s raining. You can have a wander, find somewhere nice for a coffee, and just enjoy the atmosphere. I’m not someone who needs a big plan — sometimes just being somewhere with a bit of character is enough.

For me, it’s probably Offbeet in Southsea. It’s got a really relaxed, friendly feel about it and it’s the sort of place where you can properly switch off for half an hour. I like places that feel genuine rather than overly polished, and Offbeet definitely has that. Good coffee, a nice atmosphere, and somewhere I’m always happy to return to.
It would probably have to be somewhere in the New Forest. I don’t think you can beat it. There’s something about the mix of open space, woodland and fresh air that helps you switch off a bit. It’s one of those places that never really gets old, no matter how many times you go.
I’d say try to see a few different sides of the area if you can. Spend some time in Winchester, get out into the New Forest, and then head towards the coast as well. Lymington is always well worth a visit, and although I live in Emsworth now, which is just over the border in West Sussex, it’s right on the edge of Hampshire and very much part of the wider area people should explore. One of the best things about Hampshire and the surrounding coastline is the variety — you’ve got countryside, coastline and historic towns all within easy reach!
That’s a difficult one, but if I had to choose I’d probably say the New Forest. It just feels like one of those places that sums Hampshire up beautifully. Peaceful, scenic and full of character. Whether you’re driving through it or stopping properly to take it in, it always feels special.
